- The end treatment was omitted, the wrong length of need was assumed, or the treatment was removed.

- A blunt exposed end is a severe hazard — an impact there can be far worse than no barrier at all.
How It Is Identified
- An inspection finds an unprotected barrier end facing traffic.
How It Is Corrected
- Install the specified crash cushion or attenuator, or flare/bury the end per the standard plan.
How It Can Be Prevented Upstream
- Determine end treatments during planning from agency standard plans and install them with the barrier.
